Redshift 3.0.43. RTX ON faster x2.8 times! - RS Principled Hair render test on 2x2080ti+NVLink.
In this video, I'm showing a render-test of the new Redshift 3.0.43 on my dog project.
The increase in speed on this scene: in one test - x1.7, and in the other x2.8 !!! And this is awesome!
Since with the last test with the scorpion girl - I was a little upset, I was doing different tests all weekend - and threw them here on the forum -https://www.redshift3d.com/forums/viewthread/33548/#226035
During the tests, I came to the conclusion that RTX ON still needs to be improved in Redshift and not all tests are successful. We are already discussing these points with NVidia and the Redshift Team. I think that in subsequent releases, the situation will improve on those scenes that did not show acceleration ...
Perhaps the reason for the slowdown in RTX ON in previous tests was the choice of the Hilbert method + increasing the bucket size to 256 ... I don't know. We need to check ... But here I left the default method - Spiral and bucket = 128 and it got a strong acceleration ... In general, I still need to communicate with the Redshift and NVIDIA developers, including =)
In the meantime, I want to share with you the good news and this video. There is a very good increase in this scene and the RTX ON technology has shown itself in all its glory =)
First, I tested the scene with Ornatrix Fur - without collapsing and baking the modifier stack.
Total wool - 3 million 200 thousand
Since the stack was not collapsed, PreCache was quite long - 14 minutes. But the render itself with RTX ON - pleased me =)
RTX OFF = 34 min
RTX ON = 20 min
Speed increase by 1.7 times.
We must also remember that Redshift slightly improved this version and apparently - my tests and scenes on the forum - helped with this =)
It was here that Optix 7.2, which was added to the new NVidia Studio drivers, showed its power of rendering. It is on hair and wool that Nvidia talked about in their articles about it.
In the test, I used NVIDIA Studio 461.92 drivers.
Next, knowing that PreCache is long, I decided to convert all the wool to RS Proxy. I usually do this in my projects, as the render speed increases significantly. I advise the same thing in the lessons =)
As a result, PreCache was only 17 seconds, and the render, as expected, became much faster.
RTX OFF = 19 min 44 sec
RTX ON = 7 min 14 sec
Speed increase 2.7 times!
Considering the fact that I also converted to proxy:
RTX OFF 1.7x faster
RTX ON 2.8x faster!
Here I am convinced that NVIDIA GPUs when combined with Studio drivers, provide a high level of performance and capabilities for the most demanding graphics applications. This video is not intended to humiliate other renders. I have already repeated this 100 times and will repeat it again. I'm just interested in checking the performance of different renders in different situations - on my video cards. And it is with my projects. Since I often do hair, this is my main occupation - I show such projects. They are very resource-intensive. As you can see, this scene has consumed almost all 11GB, but thanks to NVLink and "OOC" technologies, it is rendered without problems on the GPU.
And yet - I have no goal of comparing renders. I do not like to do this, because I believe that everyone is good in their own way and each has its own advantages, and I never pay attention to the disadvantages.
Therefore, I record a series of videos - not just comparisons of each of them, but separate tests of each render on certain scenes.
