On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 6 - 2017 - MBC Project(IXOR VFX)

Image
ARTSTATION *** As I wrote in a previous post - before this order - I did not really do a fur... was a hedgehog... Forester I have done later, when I felt confident in my abilities ... Lamb too ... So in the portfolio was - only 2 hairstyles and a bunch of old works, not related to grooming. That is unlikely - can inspire the customer to order such a complex project from me =) Although in fact - there is nothing complicated, because it was more work with hair than with fur (but that I now realize it, but then - to me it seemed unreal). But, IXOR VFX(Greece) came and made an order. At that time I remember Andronikos came the first time and said that he needed 3 characters - an unusual style like ghosts, but with hair and fur. I immediately replied, "I'm sorry, but I have no experience in this, I won't be able to help...". Since I've always turned down clients who wanted to do something I've never done. Because I think that you should take only those orders in w...

On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 5 - 2017 - Hedgehog

Image
*** ➡️ ARTSTATION - Here are all the renders *** A hedgehog, my favorite hedgehog. I have many interesting things associated with it. I first took up this model - in 2016. At that time - I had just started to understand Ornatrix and it all started when one of the subscribers - gave me her model and asked to tell how to make his needles and fur in Zbrush. That's how I started recording my Fibermesh lesson =) Then I wanted to improve this work and tell about Ornatrix. Especially the fur for the forester - it was not the first one after all =) The very first fur was this one. Now of course I see a lot of mistakes and nuances, which I would correct =) Do you too? =) But at the time I thought it looked very good. Moreover, I was still learning Octane and it was interesting to test its power - in rendering such works =) I had 11 GPU(1080) on our Forender farm and voila, it rendered the job in magazine quality in 2 minutes. Although, I don't remember exactly how long it took. Somew...

On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 4 - 2017 - Forester Frank

Image
*** ➡️ ARTSTATION  -  there are more pictures, Sketchfab files, etc. *** And here you can see the sculpture, the very first concept. As you can see on Artstation, I recently posted some renders of the forester and his fur. In my last post I mentioned that "ShiDo" is the best friend of the forester, the main character in the project of the same name. I also said that I had taken on too much with this project and that I would return to it one day. I said that my ambition was high, but my skills were not enough. But there was another reason why I stopped working on the project. I realized that it would take me a lifetime to learn everything I needed to know, especially the things I am not really interested in. It is one thing to look at a cartoon, film, or movie and imagine making one yourself, but it is another thing to actually immerse yourself in the process and realize that not all aspects of creation are interesting to you. I've always lived by the principle of ...

On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 3 - 2017 - ShiDo Grooming

Image
➡️ ARTSTATION *** 2017 - I started coming up with my huge project called "The Forester and His Friends" and it's friend "ShiDo." Why such a strange name and how did I come up with it? Look, it's very simple. Sheep+Dog(ShiDo) is a mixture of a dog and a sheep. Shido is the best friend of Frank the forester, about whom I will tell you more - in one of the posts. I never finished creating all the characters, because there were a lot of abmissions and not enough skills =) I might come back to this project someday. The character was inspired by different ones from the Internet + a little bit of my own imagination = the result. Again - in this project I did everything myself. As I said before - I was rushing through all aspects in 3D at the time =) I wanted to embrace everything and have time for everything =) Even got into animation a bit, but never got around to implementing projects with it. It's a terrible dissipation that doesn't lead to anything go...

On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 2 - 2016 - 2nd haircut in Ornatrix

Image
➡️ ARTSTATION --- The second hairstyle I created was these curls. Also 2016 =) So why? I didn't take big breaks, I tried to devote full time to researching character grooming. After all, in the order with Disney - I failed a bit =) That's why I don't show it anywhere... Still lacked experience at the time...I was aware of that. The one hairstyle that was asked for was done great, but the other one wasn't... just lacked experience, that's what they told me. They even paid me for two orders... But I'm not sure if they were put into the project - another reason why I don't show it in my portfolio =) When the project came out, the people who worked with me were no longer working there... so there was no one to ask... In general - a very strange order, which I do not want to talk about more =) Anyway, I'm thankful for the experience I got working with them and for putting up with them and pointing out mistakes. Again - at the time I did not really understan...

On the way to CG Grooming. My Story. Episode 1 - 2016 - First haircut in Ornatrix

Image
Artstation - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/4RNDL My very first hair work, which I did in 3 hours - after a week of studying Ornatrix. Just by poking around came to this result. Yes, I already had experience from 2009 to 2016 (7 years in 3d) and maybe during that time - I had developed an instant grasp of information on the fly - I don't know... But Ornatrix is so simple, it wasn't difficult. There weren't even any tutorials at the time, and I didn't even look at them. I just read the documentation and asked some questions to the creators from time to time. As a result - the work gets to the famous magazine in England - 3D Artist, in the top 3 best works of the month (2nd place) and I get my first order from Disney, as well as a profile on the 3D Artist site, which had 10k views, for two days - gained almost 200k =) and after a week - there were almost 700k views. Site unfortunately deleted, because they merged with the blog - CreativeBlog, but I saved a screensho...

Ornatrix Features #4 - Parting Brush(Maya)

Image
In this episode - you'll see the brush settings in Ornatrix for Maya to get a quick Parting. I recorded such a video - at the request for subscribers in Discord chat. Mikhail showed how it works in Houdini and asked - is it possible in Ornatrix? In this video I showed working with guides, but you can use this trick for hair as well.  I used to record videos like this with "link access," but now I thought they would be useful for everyone and decided to slowly open them up on the channel. The goal of the series is to quickly show something interesting and useful related to this plugin.  My time is not wasted on the voiceover, because there are already basic lessons - which also need to do =) But as - I do not load them very often, I need to do something else to promote the channel.  --- PREVIOUS SERIES: ➡️1 series - https://youtu.be/x16TlHsahTU   ➡️2 series - https://youtu.be/IPd4-XKP7Kg   ➡️3 series - https://youtu.be/nZXXG7ZE9Vg   --- CONTENTS: 0:06...
