Ornatrix UE 5: Create/Delete Brushes for Metahuman hairstyle in Unreal Engine 5

 


In this video I demonstrate the Create/Delete brushes for creating hair in Ornatrix Unreal Engine 5 - for the Metahuman character. This is a quick tutorial and here - I didn't set out to create a complete AAA-quality hairstyle. The purpose of this video is to show basic tools with which you can experiment. Because a full lesson from start to finish - requires more time and of course it must be with my comments. As you can see with the hair for Commander - it takes a long time, and I just can't wait to show you the work in Unreal Engine. Naturally I will create full-fledged tutorials with comments, but a little bit later. Nevertheless - after watching this video, you'll already learn how to use Create/Delete brushes and you'll be able to get your first hairstyles. By the way, share what you get in the comments (link to WIP, artstation and so on). I'd love to see your results. With these brushes - you can draw or remove hair - by selecting a character's head. This is already enough to start and practice creating your first hairstyles. Also, in the video - I show the Comb brush - for combing hair. It can be used not only to comb, but also to select and remove selections from the hair. To display the Ornatrix panel - you need to press Shift+9 To select the hair while combing, use the Shift+Ctrl combination. If at the moment of selection, release Shift - then you can remove it from the desired amount of hair. If you want to repeat the shape of already combed hairs, that is to enable interpolation between them - you need to create another Edit Guides and already draw in it. You can see older works here --- TIMING: 0:00 - Open Unreal Engine and select the character's head 0:10 - Activate the Create brush to draw hair 0:20 - Comb hair with the Comb brush. 0:28 - Add the Change Width modifier to adjust the thickness of the hair. 0:38 - Continue combing and editing the hair 1:07 - Here I add another Edit Guides - in order to account for the edited shape and while using the Create brush - to take it into account. 2:13 - Bake the result and continue adding hair 6:58 - Add Push Away From Surface to remove intersections with the head. 7:25 - Adding Symmetry. That way we get a quick hair style.
