On the Way to Becoming a 3D Grooming Artist | My Story | Episode 10 - 2018 - Grooming/Lookdev for Cyan Eyed(2021)

Image
Back in 2018, I got an absolutely incredible opportunity! Ryan Grobins , who at that time was a CG supervisor at  ScanlineVFX  and had worked on blockbusters like "X-Men: Dark Phoenix" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp", invited me to join his new CGI film  Cyan Eyed! At that moment, I had only seen a single concept of a pirate girl and had no idea it would turn into an amazing 8-minute cinematic that would later win a bunch of awards! And the most fascinating part is that it’s still winning awards to this day! =) Ryan keeps posting  on LinkedIn  almost every week or month about a new prize or festival. And the short itself has already gained over 2 million views on YouTube! As usual, I was doing the work I love most – grooming – but honestly, I was really anxious about how this project would turn out. I absolutely adore steampunk and everything connected with it, and this was something completely fresh and unusual! In the film, I was responsible for creating the hairst...

On the Way to Becoming a 3D Grooming Artist | My Story | Episode 9 - 2017 - Grooming and Lookdev for The Light Within | Elementalist Lux - LoL (2017 - TrizzFX, Riot Games)

Image
I remember back in 2016, when I was just starting to work with hair, I dreamed like crazy about working on some epic cinematic for League of Legends by Riot Games! =) At that time, I was really into LoL and admired every new cinematic released for that universe. In 2017, I moved to Batumi for 6 months, and it was a pure gamble! I went there almost without money, hoping to land another freelance project. In fact, I had just delivered my previous job - actually, a test task for Disney, for which I was paid $1300. And it was with that money that I went to Batumi! hahaha. That month was incredibly stressful, and I can clearly remember the wild joy and excitement I felt. First, I realized that thoughts really do become reality and the Universe does hear us. Second, I got the job exactly at the moment when my family had already lost hope and said: “That’s it… we’re going back.” And third - it was a cinematic project for League of Legends from Riot Games themselves!!! I was literally running ...

On the Way to Becoming a 3D Grooming Artist | My Story | Episode 8 - 2017 - Rethinking Emily in Corona Renderer.

Image
Hi everyone! Today I want to share the story of one iconic project, probably familiar to every 3D artist. This is my version of the famous Emily - the digital model that has become something of a standard in the CG community. I’m sure many of you who work with characters have downloaded her assets for V-Ray and run your own experiments. (Below you’ll find an animation showing how light plays on the skin and hair) Starting Point: New Corona 1.7 Shaders It all began with the release of Corona 1.7 and its revolutionary shaders for skin and hair at the time. They inspired me to dive into new experiments. Although I had just finished working  on “The Forester,”  I couldn’t wait to try these tools in action. As my “test subject,” I chose none other than  Emily from the WikiHuman project. Work Process: Lookdev and Grooming from Scratch Since the original scene was set up for V-Ray, the first thing I did was convert it for Corona Renderer. My main goal was to achieve maximum real...

On the way to 3D Grooming. My Story. Episode 7 - 2017 - Dreadlocks

Image
Hey everyone! In this episode, I want to tell you about a project that was born out of my personal passion! 😅 I’m absolutely crazy about dreadlocks, especially about people who have them. For me, there’s a special kind of aesthetics and freedom in it! When I lived on the island of Samui, this idea stuck in my head so much that I decided to get them myself. I started growing my hair, and it was already long, down to my shoulders, and just a little more to reach my joking goal of “growing it down to my butt”! Heh. But then something clicked inside me, and I… shaved my head! 🤷‍♂️ Well, more precisely, I gave myself an undercut. And it was all because dreadlocks take so much effort to maintain! I realized they just weren’t a fit for my lifestyle. But I decided to capture my love for them in this project by bringing it to life in 3D. I downloaded tons of photos of girls and guys with dreadlocks and got to work. As I’ve said before, every new project for me is a challenge. I always set new...
