Hair Clumping in Ornatrix App Beta, Part 1: Procedural Clumps, Collisions and Subclumps

Image
How to Clump Hair in Ornatrix App Beta Clumping is one of the steps that makes a 3D groom read as real hair. In this tutorial, Marsel Khadiyev walks through procedural clumping on a full groom in Ornatrix App Beta. It is part 1 of a two-part look at clumping: this video covers large-scale procedural clumps, and part 2 goes deeper into editing individual clumps. Adding a Clump operator There are two ways to start. You can type "clump" in the operator stack to add the Clump operator directly, or open the Clump tab on the toolbar and pick any of its tools, which adds the operator for you. By default the hair is split into 200 clumps, and the count updates dynamically in the viewport. You can also drive clump size with a density map or use external clump guides. Input Shape vs Volume Ornatrix App offers two clumping methods: Input Shape picks center hairs for each clump and pulls the rest toward them. Clumps stay closer to the original hair shape, and the algorithm...

The Road to 3D Grooming. My Story. Part 13 - 2018 - Hair Grooming/Lookdev for Joseph

In the same year, 2018, after two hairstyles for Camilla , I decided to come up with a boyfriend for her =) The logic was simple: there's a girl, there are hairstyles, but no partner. That won't do. My grandma also added fuel to the fire: she really wanted me to make a hairstyle like Jon Snow's . Arguing with grandma is a lost cause, so the task was set =) And back then, I refused on principle to use ready-made models. It felt like if you took someone else's head, the work wasn't quite yours anymore. So I had to come up with the character myself =) As I mentioned before, until 2021 I did a bit of everything, not just grooming =) Camilla is a delicate girl, so I wanted someone big and powerful next to her. A kind of Tarzan . Confident in himself. The kind of guy you feel safe with. So that, thanks to the contrast, they'd look like a real couple. Yep, back then I also set myself the goal of conveying a character's personality 😄 To do that, I learned to draw c...

The Road to 3D Grooming. My Story. Part 12 - 2018 - Hair Grooming/Lookdev for Camilla. The Mermaid

In 2018, I kept experimenting with my favorite 3D doll , Camilla 😄 Last time, I told you how she came to be and why I wanted a separate character to experiment with hairstyles . Now it was time to change her look a little. To start, I decided to change her eye color, remove the gloss from her lips and give her calmer, everyday makeup. And at the same time, come up with an interesting new hairstyle. I didn't want to repeat myself - I needed to move on and try something new =) And this is where I should mention one mistake I didn't even realize I was making back then. In those years, I barely worked with references . For some reason, I thought it was much more interesting to invent hairstyles myself, straight out of my head. Like, why repeat what already exists when you can create something of your own? 😄 Looking back now, I realize how silly that decision was. Because to come up with something truly interesting, you first need to fill your head with a visual library . Go thro...

Wednesday Addams Braids in Ornatrix App: From a Photo to a 3D Groom

Image
How to Build Wednesday Addams Hair from a Single Photo in Ornatrix App Beta Most hairstyles start with a reference photo and a lot of guesswork about how the hair actually wraps around the head. In this Ornatrix App Beta tutorial, Marsel Khadiyev shows a faster way to get past that stage. He builds a Wednesday Addams inspired hairstyle with straight bangs and French braids , starting from one reference image. From a reference photo to a 3D hair shell The Generate Hair Shell tool lets you search for a reference image right inside the app, pick one and align the base head model with the hair in the picture. After that, the tool generates a 3D hair shell around the head. Image conversion runs on a local model on your computer, and OpenAI or Claude API keys are optional. The first time you press Generate, Ornatrix App downloads additional components, so give it a few minutes. Building the groom by hand The hair shell is only a guide. The actual hairstyle is built with the ...
